Jublee Handique is a political geographer interested in the ways borders are lived and experienced in everyday life. Drawing on feminist political geography, her research focuses on Northeast India and examines how ordinary people navigate the opportunities and constraints created by border-making processes. She is particularly interested in questions of mobility, development, belonging, and the everyday practices through which state power is encountered and negotiated. Her work is further informed by her graduate minor in Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) at The Ohio State University, which shapes her attention to questions of power, embodiment, care, and social justice.
Her current work explores border haats, state-sanctioned cross-border markets along the North-East India border, as sites where economic exchange, social relationships, and geopolitics intersect. Through ethnographic and archival research, she investigates how border communities make a life at the edge of the state, revealing the creative ways people build livelihoods, sustain connections, and imagine futures across political boundaries.
