The Department of Geography Speaker Series presents the Taaffe Lecture
Prof. Cedric Johnson, Univ. of Illinois Chicago
Topic: The US Left After Black Lives Matter
Abstract: This talk surveys the landscape of American politics six years after the George Floyd protests. That we are now a nation sinking into an authoritarian nightmare a mere half decade after George Floyd requires sober reflection, serious questioning of the ideological and strategic failures of the Black Lives Matter moment, and most of all, the return of a majoritarian-left politics, a counterpower capable of contesting capitalist class power and the threat of technofascism.
